We are still trying to get everyone properly outfitted and requests are sent out as needed. We now have 30 kids, some of whom are not yet outfitted. Great appreciation to those that have helped out. See our Donations page for a list of items we still need.
Milestone: As of 10 October 2009, we have cut and delivered 125 cords of wood (Firewood For The Poor). That’s over 225 pick-up truckloads! April 16, 2009 marked our ONE YEAR ACCIDENT/MISHAP FREE milestone! On that day we started with four adults and ten kids, now we have thirty youngsters. Thanks to everyone that made this possible.
2008 October 18: Groundbreaking at First Job Site.
2008 October 20: Launch website.
2008 November 30: Complete and file all permission slips.
2008 December 5: First Firewood For the Poor (FFP) work day.
2008 December 12: FFP work day.
2008 December 19: FFP work day. As you can see, this has been a tremendous success because of the high demand. The economy of late has contributed to the increase in people switching to wood burning to heat their homes. See our donations page for information on the types of chainsaw chains, etc. we need!
2008 December 22: Depart for Camping and Survival (CAS) trip in Eastern Tennessee. Changed from 19DEC due to scheduling conflict at CAS site. Added an additional FFP work day. Will return early Christmas morning.
2008 December 26 - 30: FFP work days.
2008 December 30: Have all team members properly outfitted.
2009 January 9: FFP work day.
2009 January 10: Begin first work project. We have a six acre site that we will be clearing of trees to make way for our recreation area.
2009 February 7, 14, and 28: FFP work days, camping days.
2009 March 7 and 14: Work project days, FFP days.
2009 March 21 and 28: FFP work days.
2009 March 28-29: Camping trip.
2009 April 6-11: FFP work days, begin staging for Phase II.
2009 June 15: Begin Phase II. We are splitting into two teams (one for the FFP work and the other for the recreation area and barracks move.) Each team will have to be properly outfitted and supplied. The FFP will continue to cut and stockpile firewood for winter. The rec area team will continue to clear the area and make preparations for building the recreation center. Barracks move scheduled to be in place prior to the July Fourth holiday.
Phase II Scheduled Work/Activity Days:
April 17-19, 24-26. Includes (1) camping trip.
May 1-3, 8-10, 15-17, 22-24, 27-31. Includes (1) camping trip and (3) firearms/hunter safety courses. Started community gardens.
June 1-15, 19-30. Includes (2) camping trips and (2) firearms/hunter safety courses.
July 1-3, 6-31. Almost every day will be FFP workdays (weather permitting,) Four firearms/hunter safety courses. Two camping trips.
August 1-September 30. Preparation for returning to school. Two days winter coat drive for the less fortunate (delivery scheduled for 21 September and our goal is 100 coats and jackets. Two firearm/hunter safety courses. One camping trip. One lake trip. One river rafting trip.
September 16 winter coat drive update. We have collected 132 coats and have three days left to actively collect. We have exceeded our goal--the kids worked really hard on this one!
October 1-31. Most likely our last regularcamping trip of the season will happen this month (we have a cold weather survival camping trip we hope to get in later.) Lots of FFP workdays.
